Cannabis Review: Nightshift by Kingsway

L.A. CONFIDENTIAL IN DISGUISE

This is my first review of a Kingsway cannabis product, it was labeled as Nightshift (Afghan OG) by the High12 company under the Kingsway brand. This is grown by Aurora Cannabis as mentioned on the label, which is based near Edmonton, Alberta.

As described on the Ontario Cannabis Store where I purchased this it notes O.G. LA Affie and Afghani lineage, which is LA Confidential.

Cannabinoid Content and Terpenes

THC content was 164.4mg per gram as labeled or 16.44% THC for those who prefer that terminology, which I myself agree with more on dried cannabis.

Terpene and other cannabinoid data was minimal on the Ontario Cannabis Store website and mentions five terpenes as, Pinene, Myrcene, Ocimene, Guaiol and Caryophyllene.

Price, Shipping and Pack Dates

The price was $8.60 per gram with taxes on the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) for a container with 3.5 grams, costing a total of $30.10. Shipping was free with Canada Post due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, otherwise it would’ve been $5 plus tax.

This was packaged on March 27th 2020 and was purchased on April 30th 2020. I received the container on May 5th and opened it on May 16th, which means this was packaged for 51 days. While the date of packaging sounds good, the harvest date remains unknown.

Appearance, Smell and Taste

The container’s seal was hard to peel open and required the use of a pen to break it. I often have cramps in my hands so some might not have this issue but it was really on there. Presented after opening were four buds, you could spot some yellowing in some areas but mostly green and dense with lots of brown pistils throughout. The buds were really dry and lacked moisture, the use of a humidity pack was needed at my expense and waited two days before consuming it again as it grinded to dust. This wasn’t an issue after the two days of remediation.

Smell and taste were earthy and pine and relate to the terpenes myrcene and pinene. If I didn’t know this was an Aurora product as labeled on the container I’d know it was L.A. Confidential by them as I’ve tried it countless times in the past when I posted reviews on Lift & Co. as this is Snow Dome under Aurora’s medical program.

Consumption Methods

With every review I’ve ever done I try a minimum of six temperatures, each are individual sessions to see how long each lasts at a set fixed temperature. This may vary by each device and the one used here was the Mighty vaporizer.

My ideal temperature with this cultivar was in the range of 180 to 185 degrees Celsius (356-365F) with a session lasting around 9 minutes. At slightly higher temperatures the flavour was less noteworthy but still okay.

170C (338F) – 9 minutes
175C (347F) – 9 minutes
180C (356F) – 9 minutes
185C (365F) – 8 minutes
190C (374F) – 6 minutes
195C (383F) – 5 minutes

Rolled into a gram and smoked as a joint I found the ash was very dark and found myself relighting multiple times as it kept going out. Wasn’t a good smoke and preferred using this with the vaporizer.

Subjective Effects

The effects offered me a nice head high, I didn’t feel tired but relaxed. Slight clarity and focus, while providing good pain relief to my joints and muscles. Dry eyes were common and needed to use eye drops. Evening use is advised to individuals who don’t partake daily and duration of effects was around 90 minutes.

Final Thoughts

My guess this is for someone who doesn’t know what they’re looking for and the nightshift name was used for the idea to use at night, which I found was appropriate. This isn’t for an enthusiast nor is it “the people’s weed” as noted on the Kingsway website as I found other cultivars at a lower price more worthy.

L.A. Confidential by Aurora Cannabis was $10.50 a gram on OCS with taxes previously so I’m happy to see the price is lower here but on Twitter it is said Daily Special Indica is L.A. Confidential or sometimes MK Ultra by the same grower, which I’d prefer as the cost per gram is $6.27 with taxes.

I won’t be buying this again and wouldn’t recommend paying above the $8 per gram price.

Cannabis Review: BC Sensi Star by Flowr

SWEET AND FLORAL

This is my first review of a Flowr product by The Flowr Corporation out in Kelowna, British Columbia. I purchased this off the Ontario Cannabis Store at the end of April in 2020 and my initial reaction wasn’t good after seeing it was packaged in August 2019. Surprised it had good moisture since my previous encounters with old cannabis haven’t been great.

Cannabinoid Content and Terpenes

Due to the old label the THC content showed in percent form only, showing 14.2% THC, under the new label regulations this would show 142 mg of THC per gram. There was 0.1% CBD equaling 1 mg of CBD per gram, which is negligible.

Terpene and other cannabinoid data was minimal on the Ontario Cannabis Store website and noted the four mentioned, Caryophyllene, Guaiol, Humulene, and Limonene.

Price, Shipping and Pack Dates

The price was $8.27 per gram with taxes on the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS) for a container with 3.5 grams, costing a total of $28.95. Shipping was free with Canada Post or 3-day delivery due to the current COVID-19 outbreak, otherwise it would’ve been $5 plus tax.

This was packaged on August 8th 2019 and was purchased on April 28th 2020. I received the container on May 1st and opened it a day later, which means this was packaged for 269 days. Keep in mind the harvest date remains unknown.

Appearance, Smell and Taste

A container holding the cannabis was inside the paper box and I had a hard time trying to pull off the seal from the container as you might notice in the YouTube video, so tough that I had to use my teeth. The golden rust coloured buds began presenting a nice sweet floral and citrus earth smell which could be noticed from waist height, which was surprising considering the package date of nearly nine months. Moisture content was perfect and didn’t need a humidity pack to restore the moisture balance. Trichomes didn’t look too great on this one, but if you look close in some areas you can see the heads intact still, unsure what to make of the rest of it.

Some on social media claim they can see mould in some areas of the macro photo taken, but I’m not making this claim since I didn’t feel sick after use and felt fine days later. That being said, not all mould will present effects for everyone and the use of irradiation will most likely make it not harmful and just gross knowing if it’s there.

Consumption Methods

With every review I’ve ever done I try a minimum of six temperatures, each are individual sessions to see how long each lasts at a set fixed temperature. This may vary by each device and the one used here was the Mighty vaporizer.

My ideal temperature with this cultivar was in the range of 175 to 185 degrees Celsius (347-365F) to capture the most flavour and while enjoying the vapour output. At slightly higher temperatures the flavour was less flavourful after a few minutes into the session but still provided lots of vapour.

170C (338F) – 10 minutes
175C (347F) – 9 minutes
180C (356F) – 9 minutes
185C (365F) – 9 minutes
190C (374F) – 6 minutes
195C (383F) – 5 minutes

Rolled into a gram and smoked as a joint I found the ash was grey and a good balance of a salt and pepper look. Was a nice smoke, smooth and flavourful. I preferred using the vape as flavour was more apparent.

Subjective Effects

While everyone’s experiences may vary I felt talkative, forgetful, dreamy and had good pain relief in my joints and muscles for almost two hours. After that it began wearing off over the course of another hour but the effects were minimal. Dry eyes and an increased appetite at times I didn’t want it were common nuisances.

Final Thoughts

It wasn’t like the other Sensi Star I’ve tried by another licensed producer, this one had a different smell to it and reminded me of my fifth grade teacher’s perfume, sweet and floral. I did question the cost as it was the cheapest whole flower at the time by Flowr on OCS, my assumption it was priced lower to sell. Despite the age of the cannabis I enjoyed the effects and was impressed how good the moisture content was, far from dried out. The concerns of possible mould others have said online made me question trying it again.

Cannabis Review: Opium by Agro Greens via CannMart

A Mean Looking Bud

This cannabis flower is from Agro Greens, a licensed producer out in Macklin, Saskatchewan and was purchased from CannMart which is a 3rd party provider of licensed produced cannabis in Canada.

Cannabinoid Content and Terpenes

The label on the container showed a value of 19.5% THC and zero CBD.

On the Agro Greens website they have listed the terpenes in this cultivar, Myrcene had a value of 0.754% and was the leading dominant terpene. Bisabolol was a mere 0.188%, Humulene 0.115%, Guaiol 0.113% and a very small amount of Limonene at 0.036%.

Price, Shipping and Pack Dates

I purchased 5 grams from CannMart at the cost of $13.99 per gram plus taxes. The cost of shipping was free with Canada Post since my order was over $100, otherwise it would’ve been $9 flat.

The package date on the container was noted July 17th 2019 and was ordered on November 11. I began reviewing this on November 22, which means the product was packaged for 129 days before being opened.

Smell and Appearance

Upon opening the container I could smell an earthy pine scent with hints of lemon. Inside the container was a small four gram Boveda pack which likely kept this product fresh over the short time it was packaged. Reason why I say that is because my luck with these large round containers usually dry out the buds fairly quickly as you’ll see in my other CannMart reviews.

The buds looked decent and averaged of a medium size, had a good spongy feel to them and perfectly balanced moisture. A golden shade with light greens were noticed, and up close and magnified showed a ton of trichomes covering the bud. Lots of dark orange pistils poking about, however small amounts of leaves were left intact and noticeable stems.

Consumption and Taste

I used my Mighty vaporizer in the temperature range of 170 to 190 Celsius (338F to 374F). Eight minute sessions were typical at lower temperatures, and on the higher end six to seven minutes sessions using 0.25 grams of cannabis. In joint form it burned grey but the ash was on the lighter side. The smoke was smooth and I really enjoyed, but as usual I preferred consuming in the vaporizer.

Subjective Effects

Upbeat, positive feelings with moderate pain relief and a noticeable head high. I didn’t feel tired by any means despite the high amount of myrcene and was able to maintain a conversation and staying productive.

Common negatives were increased hunger and dry mouth but easily remedied . I preferred using this in the afternoon or evening and found the duration of effects lasted around 90 minutes.

Final Thoughts

I would buy this again but it was expensive and will prevent me from buying it again as I found cheaper alternatives. Overall, a great choice to mellow out and relax while getting things done.
